To create an exception for SQL Server in Windows Firewall, follow these steps:

  1. In Windows Firewall, click the Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall / Exceptions tab, and then click Allow/Add Program.
  2. In the Allow / Add a Program window, click Browse.
  3. Click C:\Program Files\MicrosoftSQLServer\MSSQL.TOURWRITER\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe executable program
  4. Click Open
  5. Click OK

Please note that the path may be different depending on where SQL Server is installed.

To create an exception for the SQL Server Browser service in Windows Firewall, follow these steps:

  1. In Windows Firewall, click the Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall / Exceptions tab, and then click Allow/Add Program.

  3. Click the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe executable program
